Last summer, my life was like an episode of Desperate Housewives. True, the sexy peignoir so de rigueur for the show was rolled up in the back of a drawer somewhere. And yes, Teri Hatcher was apparently unavailable—so my mother and grandmother filled in. But the drama was straight out of Hollywood.

Should you track down old flames on Facebook?

Not long ago, I was staring at my computer, feeling perplexed. No, that's not the right word. Curious. Hesitant. Dry-mouthed with fear? A bit of each, really. I had just tracked down three old friends from 20 years ago on Facebook, a social networking website. Despite my advanced years – I’m defiantly 42 – I signed up. For a while I wondered what the hell I was doing, paddling in the kiddie pool. Then I found them.
